The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes presents the exhibition “Sara Facio: Fotografías 1960/2010” (Sara Facio: Photographs 1960/2010) in Hall 33 on the first floor, until June 19, 2022. This group of 39 works is shown in homage to the Argentinean artist for her untiring labor as a cultural manager and for having initiated the Musuem’s collection of photographs in 1995.
Facio, who has just celebrated her 90th birthday, was personally in charge of selection the group of images that make up this exhibition, all from her private collection. The body of work shown covers different moments of her vast production, from 1960 to 2010, with photographs from her prestigious series “Primeros premios” (First Prizes), “Humanario” (Humanary), “Buenos Aires Buenos Aires”, “Funerales del presidente Perón” (Funerals of President Perón) and “Bestiario” (Beastiary), among others.
Facio’s close relationship with the Museum began in 1995, when she presented the proposition of amassing a photography collection. Toward this end, she offered to donate 50 works by notable photographers from her own archive, encouraged others to participate and provided the incentive for generous contributions from artists and collectors. Over the years, she carried out five other donations of pieces from her archive to the Museum, and acted as the collection’s curator until 2012. This institutional patrimony currently consists of over 1,500 images, including works by renowned Argentinean as well as international authors.
